A issue of Seattle’s seminal local rag, The Rocket. This one from 1985, in the heyday of Seattle’s power pop and proto-”grunge” era. The calm(-ish) before the storm that would be 90’s Grunge Mania.
This issue focuses on local music recorded in the Pacific Northwest region with a special spotlight on The Sonics that would predate much of their late-in-life national recognition.
In addition to that, lots of great ads, gossip, a “Worst Rock ‘n’ Roll Films of All Time” list (all worth watching) designed by the great artist/in-house layout coordinator Art Chantry, an illustration by Raymond Pettibon, Bruce Pavitt’s column pre-SUB POP, and some really cool 80’s ads. Two favorites I included being Grace Jones for Playboy and Lou Reed for Honda.
