Helix Magazine was the free press hippie rag in Seattle in the late 60’s/70s. In it, rock shows and love-ins were advertised and protests were coordinated. There’s an ad near the back of this issue inviting everyone to attend a rally to “Save the Market”—the the beginning of Seattle’s earliest preservation efforts and it’s first pushes against what would become a century of gentrification.
Also in this issue is the announcement of the second Sky River Rock Festival—one of the many Woodstock-type hippie fests that predated Woodstock—which would be a benefit for the magazine, some cool local shows advertised, and an ad for a $1.99 poster of Yoko and John that’s gone on to be highly sought after by collectors.
