San Francisco Good Times, formerly San Francisco Express-Time, had recently gone through a radical identity shift into a cooperative hippie rag (“35 cents or barter”) that worked in the the San Fran epicenter of the Summer of Love.
Coming from it’s second year of publishing, this 1969 issue provides a fascinating temperature check of not just SF, but of America in the year 1969. A pivotal year in the country’s culture and politics. The volatile Haight-Ashbury scene of drug pushers runaways and wolflike pimps tints the tone of the scene as one a bit more sexual and aggravated.
